Happy Birthday Dad!

I have had a plant for about 5 years, a desert rose. I got this from an antique fair and it was a couple inches tall. We have babied this plant and watched it grow throughout the years, but it has never bloomed. Until last week!

Just when I needed a little sunshine in my life, it bloomed. And just when I needed to laugh and have family around, this weekend happened!

Oh and just when I needed a little help around the house, this happened:

Delilah and the Swiffer.

What a week! This weekend we had such a good time, my mom and dad came into town for my dad's birthday and we made a delicious meal! No pictures, there was no time! My niece and nephew also were here to visit entertain Delilah.

This baby loves purses!

We got Delilah's one year pictures taken and even though I was skeptical, they turned out so good! As soon as I get the copies, you better bet your bottom dollars I will be posting them ;) She did really good considering how hot it was and all of the distractions. You will never see a woman act more out of her mind then when you watch her try and make her baby smile for pictures! And we probably listened to Katy Perry's Roar about 53 times!

Byron went out of town to do work at his parents house, but got a little quality time in before he left.

These two :)

We made some yummy donuts one morning. With my mom's iced tea of course ;)

To make these, you get biscuits and cut out the middle, I used a shot glass, it made for perfect donut holes. You heat up 1/4 inch of oil and fry until golden brown. Dip them in melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar. So good!

We tested out the new water park in our area, Delilah loved the lazy river!

My dad got here Saturday morning and me and my mom got to cooking. Ribeyes, mashed potatoes, green beans, and hollandaise sauce. Oh and golden beets, that only me, my mom, and Delilah ate!

His birthday dinner was finished off with yellow cake and fudge frosting!

Everyone left pretty early Sunday, my dad had to work and the kids needed to get ready for school. I already miss having everyone here, it is really hard to not have family close, but at least everyone got to visit. Delilah woke up this morning expecting to see everyone in the living room, needless to say, she was a little disappointed once she realized it was just her and me and 3 loads of laundry.

It was a great weekend! Happy Birthday to the greatest man I know, who I proudly get to call Dad, I love you so much!

Weekend Recap

Lately, it is very strange when we have a free weekend. We have been so busy it seems, so this weekend we spent a lot of time just sitting around staring at each other, thinking about what we were going to do. Delilah was feeling spunky and I quickly determined that we are going to have to start planning little adventures on those few, free weekends that we do have.

Byron spent the majority of the weekend playing Diablo and trying to get a gecko out of the house. I remember those days, before we lived together, when I was in an apartment in downtown San Marcos. I loved that place, and wish I had taken more pictures of it. My memories will just have to do! Well, in central Texas there is a time of year where crickets take over everything. It. Is. Disgusting. They are loud and jump anytime you try to catch them. And lord help me if one would have flown in my hair. Well, when there would be some in my apartment, I would grab a couple bowls and quickly plop one down over the cricket. Worked like a charm! Then, when Byron would come over, he would do the dirty work. It was so funny the first time he saw what was going on, he just asked "Why do you have 5 bowls on your living room floor?" Well Byron, I am so glad you asked ;)

We took Delilah to a park in Georgetown and had fun looking at all of the pecan trees and the little creek with the fish. She wasn't too interested in the playscape so we just walked around for a bit and when her face was beet red, decided it was time to go. We have a new BBQ place down the road and decided to try it out. It was really good! I love how Delilah loves BBQ! And mac and cheese :)

Baby relax time. The 3rd time Delilah has ever cuddled. ;)

Delilah is officially waving at everybody. And everything for that matter. It initially started with her Papa, and now a person can't walk by without Delilah excitedly waving her hands around. When I go in to get her from a nap, that is the first thing she does, wave hi.

Her jibber jabber is also cracking me up. "Dobe daaaa do." That is one of my favorites. Watching her try and communicate is priceless.

Music is lighting up her life, her favorite is at dinner time when we are all watching her. She will start clicking her mouth the bang on the table like a drum. Her Dad soon joins with singing or clapping and the I start chiming in and dancing around. Family band? I think so.

Look at this plant go!

When you have read Five Silly Monkeys so many times you can read it without looking while trying to get a picture of Delilah's face in a monkey.

All in all it was a successful weekend! I hope everyone has a great week!

Our Weekend

Hey there Monday! It has been a little low key over here, it is funny how when the baby is acting crazy, you want her to just sit and cuddle and then when she is sick, you just want her to be running around, acting crazy again.

I have literally been inside for 3 days straight, getting a little cramped.

Delilah started running a fever Thursday and has not been feeling good since. That means a lot of extra holding, nursing, and sleepless nights. The doctor gave her some cough medicine, she has the equivalent of bronchitis, but the baby version and we are waiting to hear back for the strep test, which will hopefully be negative. We thought it was just her teeth, but I am now convinced that it not only is her teeth, but growing pains, a runny nose, and her cough. She has the most pitiful hoarse voice.

We took it easy and tried getting her out in the water, which lasted about 2 minutes, enough time to get this picture.

Then she started to drink the water, and it was crazy windy and way past her nap time, so right when shit started to hit the fan, we left!

I am updating her nursery right now, kinda turning it into a little girls room. I still have the rocker in there, which is where we spend all most of our time. As soon as she feels better, I am going to stick to it and stop nursing her to sleep. I think it will be better for everyone in the long run, it will just be tough to get through. I can do it! (Maybe if I say that enough, I will believe it and I really will stick with it!)

I made Delilah a little reading nook and I am really excited about it, she already seems to love it! I have a problem with buying books, I can't seem to stop, so I will need another shelf here pretty soon! Especially once the next Amazon Prime order gets here. I am putting her favorites on the bottom where she can reach and grab them, and then hand them over to me to read for the 376th time. It really is cute, but I am really ready for Brown Bear to start seeing something else, you know what Im saying?

I get a little sad when I think about Delilah growing up so fast, but then that sadness is quickly replaced by excitement. I am so excited for her to learn new things and love the fact that she is so inquisitive about everything!

Hopefully, this medicine will start kicking in and I will have my descructo baby back. A full night's sleep would be good too ;)

On a side note, I have ran into a giant, non motivated, stop me from being creative, food wall. I have hit it at full speed. I made chicken and rice the other night, and it could have literally been used as a weapon. It was done. I am not sure what is going on here, but hopefully I will find my cooking inspiration again and get back to working it. Anyone else ever fall into an 'is this even edible, should I feed it to my family' cooking rut?

I hope everyone has a really great week!

A Wedding Weekend

So this weekend was a wedding of a friend, my husband has known him for 20+ years. It marks the first night away from the baby, well not all night, but a few hours at least.

It was beautiful and the happy couple exchanged their rings as the sun was setting, to the shrieks and coos of our little darling baby!

Her grandparents took her home after everyone ate dinner and my husband and I naturally danced the night away. I didn't realize how much we needed that night, if it was for only a few hours. I realized how serious our relationship had gotten. This night not only started a new life for the newly married couple, but also gave us the refresher we needed, as well.

This weekend also marks the first hangover I have had in over a year. Did NOT miss that.

I have been too uptight about letting anyone watch Delilah, and I think it is time to let go a little bit. Out of anyone in the world, her grandparents, all four, love her as much as we do and will take care of her. I would not trade any of the time I have spent with Delilah but I now know how important it is to take time for my relationship. We had so much fun and the only thing we worried about was which drink what song was going to play next and what new, sweet dance move we were going to come up with. We. Cut. A. Rug.

Congratulations Kevin + Lacey!

Worst. Cold. Ever.

This week I think I have literally had the worst cold of my life. I could really use a new head at this point. My ears, throat, nose, hair, everything hurts and is clogged up.

I was using Baby Aquaphor because the tissue I was using was tearing up my nose. I decided to give Delilah's Boogie Wipes a whirl to see if they really do help.

What a difference! I am now a Boogie Wipe believer! I have been using the Boogie Mist as well and it is really working numbers too.

Fingers crossed that Delilah doesn't get the cold, I am pretty sure though she is the one that gave it to me. She is finally clear of her ear infection, yay!

Fingers, toes, and arms crossed that my husband doesn't get it.

Time, Where are You, dammit?

Me and my husband were talking last night after we put itty bitty to bed. He was finishing up some work and I was piddling on my iPad. He had a very concerned look on his face and he started talking about how we don't spend that much time together anymore. He acknowledged that between the baby, cooking, cleaning, and making lunches that, that doesn't leave much time for myself. Which he understands that I need to have. He very plainly stated, "I want to do something with you so you remember why you love me."

I have always said one of the most important parts in a relationship, besides communication, is remembering why you fell in love with that person. We all get stressed out, mad at the noises he makes while eating, irritated when the sheets are all twirled up on the bed, and overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities. But when it comes down to it, I chose Byron. I chose to be with him. I fell in love with him because of the way he made me laugh and how young and gentle his heart is. We would have nightly dance parties in our living room, wrestling matches in the kitchen, and explore new places. Obviously things change, more responsibilities add up, and having a baby makes your past life almost unrecognizable. Instead of thinking about what was, we need to think about what is now.

I need to take more time with my husband, even if it is a quick touch of our hands as we pass by each other in the house. Even though there are not enough hours in the day, I need to find time to do these small gestures so we both don't forget we are in a relationship and we are people who love each other. Balance is one of the hardest thing I have encountered in motherhood. It is a daily struggle and I'm sure it will always be. I need to be ok with knowing I am not going to get everything I need to get done. It does not make me a bad mom, a bad wife, or a bad person. As I was rocking and nursing Delilah I kept saying these statements over in my head, I needed to remind myself that I am good. That I am trying. That I have a husband who wants to spend more time with me. And that it is ok to need want time to myself.

I am  doing the best I can. I am doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. I am  doing the best I can. Delilah's First Easter

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend! We did! However, Delilah decided not to sleep either nights, Saturday night was so bad that the only way she would sleep is on me. So we were pretty much zombies yesterday, but it was still a lot of fun! And you have to love all of the Easter outfits! We managed to have three super cute wardrobe changes!

We started the weekend driving to Houston to spend half of the weekend with my family. My mom cooked our all-time favorite meal: chicken pot pie, sweet potato casserole, squash casserole, and finally a pecan roll with chocolate sauce. It. Was. So. Good. Delilah got her first visit from the Easter bunny! Yogurt melts, onsies, and a mini peep! She took one bit of the peep and literally threw it back behind her. I guess she is not a fan!

After a short visit in Houston, we loaded up and drove to La Grange to visit Byron's family. We had out first post baby church trip, which went surprisingly well. Thank you to the Easter bunny for those yogurt melts! We took pictures in the beautiful bluebonnets, Delilah of course ate some as well ;) After a Easter egg hunt, another huuuuuge meal, and one three helpings of banana pudding, we headed home.

.easter outfit no longer available.

We learned that Delilah loves broccoli, does not like peeps, likes eating flowers, and does not sleep well in her pack n play. If anyone has advice on how to travel easier with a baby, please let me know! What are the musts for you?
