Pinky and the Brain

Maybe I am dating myself, but does anyone remember the cartoon, Pinky and the Brain? I am feeling a lot like that today, " Hey Brain, what are we doing today?", "Same thing we do everyday Pinky, try and take over the world!"

Well, I am not necessarily trying to take over the world, but I am trying to wrangle a walking baby and try to take over my life! We try and get through breakfast, because you never know if she is going to just decide to stop liking strawberries.
Get through trying to get her down for a nap 3 times, after finally nursing her to sleep, something I said I was going to stop doing.
Get through lunch, after realizing, "Shit! I don't have anything to feed you!".
Get through the second nap, which may or may not happen, after at least 3 attempts, of yep you guessed it, nursing her to sleep, each time.
Then getting through the dreaded 4:00pm- 6:00pm hours, is it me or are these 2 hours the toughest part of the day? Shit show, that's what it is and what I will now be calling that time. The Shit Show will now be beginning at 4:00 pm sharp, ladies and gentlemen!
Then figuring out dinner and then eating throwing the food that was so damn difficult to make, everywhere.
Getting through bath time and then wrestling to get lotion and pjs on, not sure what in the hell has happened there, but Delilah has decided she will have no part in that.
Then playing, winding down (yeah right), stuffing yogurt in her face to make sure she doesn't wake up in the middle of the night due to hunger, and then bed time.
Read the same books we have read 584 times, and finally turn the light off, "night night light" and nurse her to sleep, which I have once again done even though I said I wasn't.
Then after she is asleep, I just sit there like a wet cat who has just gotten a bath,
"What in the hell just happened to me?".

Then, like everyone says to try and give you false hope, "Tomorrow is a new day...", is it? Is it really, people?

And then the weekend comes, Byron says "So Sarah, what are we doing today?" And I, as nicely as possible, respond, "Figure it out, I'm sleeping."

What to Wear

A typical day...

Hmm, I think I will wear something cute today.
Damn, I got coffee on my dress. Hello old stand by: cut off shirts and tank top.

I always wear my hair up or pulled back, I might wear it down today.
Delilah stop pulling momma's hair. Up it goes.

Ok, I will try to put my hair down, it's giving me a headache.
Damn, how do you get cottage cheese out of hair. Stays up all day.

Oh, I should wear those cute sandals today.
Delilah, wait, wait for mom. I can't get these stupid straps... it just.. won't.. where are my flip flops?

Maybe I should put on makeup today, it has been a while.
*I whirl around the house while Delilah is taking her one nap, trying to do each and everything I need to get done while she is sleeping, Im buzzing around like a fly trying to get out of a room. Annnnnnnnd she's awake. I will put on makeup tomorrow, for real.

Time for a semi-cute wardrobe change. Ok, just a new shirt. Dad is about to be home, I don't want him to see me looking like a mess.
Cheese puff fingers, really. Delilah momma just changed shirts.

Dad's home!
"Sarah what is in your hair, is.. that.. a blueberry? Oh and you got something.. right.. there on your.. well there, is that milk?" No, it is reminiscent yogurt and thanks for pointing it out.

Baby is asleep! Yes! Im going to take a shower and put on some jams.
Byron says, "Oh are you, like, going to bed, you have your night shirt on and I think there is something on it, yeah something is crusty on your shoulder."

Fuck it, Im going to bed.

Destructo Baby finally asleep, Momma soon to follow.

Have a great week everybody!

Pretty Skulls

What do you do when your husband collects animal skulls he finds in the wilderness? Well… you make them pretty. He knows that in any other circumstance, skulls, heads, or bones are not permitted in the house. That has not stopped him from bringing them home, they just stay in the garage. I have gotten creative and this is what has come out of his weird hobby. I also have used antlers as decorations. Sometimes, you just can't fight it.

There you have it! Pretty Skulls!

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

**Message me if you are interested in one of these little gems. I would be more than happy to personalize a skull for you. That may have been the strangest sentence I have ever typed.

The 3 B's

Delilah has been a bit of a handful the past week and we were worried about an ear infection. So, I went ahead and made a doctor appointment for her to rule that out. We grabbed some burritos and a taco from Chipotle, one of our favorite weekend spots and also got some baby proofing gear. (She has officially figured out how to open the cabinets.) All the while she fell asleep in the truck. When she woke up we were at the doctor's office and needless ay she woke up on the wrong side of the car seat. After some poking and looking around the doctor said her ears looked great, which was a relief, but she did say that she was definitely getting some top teeth so that could be why she has been tugging on her ears and explains her not so great moods and sleeping patterns. Hey, we can work with that!

Usually, when we are running errands I don't have to nurse her, since riding in the car will usually lull her to sleep and looking around keeps her pretty occupied. But after feeling a little scared from the doctors, I could tell that she wanted to nurse. We got home and I took her to her room and our rocking chair. After about 15 minutes we were done, Delilah sat up and started pointing at every decoration and toy in her room. When I brought her back in the living room, Byron started playing with her and said, "Whoa she is in a much better mood, I guess she needed one of the 3 B's." I looked at him like 'what in the hell are you talking about' and he was like, "You know, it was either boob, bottom, or bed." Yep. You are right, it was one of the 3 B's!

It is the weekend!! Yay!

Please excuse the blurriness of the pictures, my subject doesn't really stay still ;)

Happy Father's Day!

This weekend consisted of painting, yard work, and spending time together as a family. We were exhausted come Sunday, with refreshed energy for the Game of Thrones finale, whew!

I have made a promise to myself to start doing the things that I want to do. Sounds simple, but it has been hard! Especially with a baby, it seems as though as soon as you have a baby your wants and desires go on the back burner. One of the items on my list was make our front yard pretty. I did not realize what a pain it would be, but we were able to get a fraction of our goals done.

I am so proud of what we accomplished!

I am sure we would have gotten further, however having the little bebe meant unplanned breaks and tag teaming like nobody's business. ;)

Midway through yard work, our lawn mower broke... so there was a mohawk in our yard. My poor husband, on Father's Day, had to finished the crazy jungle we call a yard. Our sweet neighbor let us borrow his mower. We did go out to eat to a local sushi restaurant, Byron's favorite, pick up an Under Armor shirt, also his favorite, and got all of the baby kisses and slobber he could ever want! All in all it was a great weekend, tiring, but great. I have been so lucky with the fathers in my life, my own dad set the bar really high on what kind of father I wanted for Delilah, and Byron has been nothing short of amazing. I am so proud of the father that he has become.

I know the quality of this picture is pretty terrible, but I love the way they are looking at each other. Delilah was so excited to open this box up and Byron was trying to get it set up as fast as possible, so there was a brief stare down and I am so glad I happened to catch it. The way these two interact cracks me up and will without fail put a smile on my face.

It looks as though I have moved all of my pictures, otherwise I would have probably posted about 83 pictures of them.

Delilah has her first swim lessons today, we are I am excited and nervous! Have a great week!

Sh*t Happened - A post about Poop and Diaper Rash

We have been lucky enough to not have a tough time with diaper rash. Delilah has had a little redness but nothing to bad. I am not sure why it has gone this well, but I am not going tempt it. Lately, she has been a little more irritated, I am thinking the new food she is eating? Not sure.

In case you are wondering, I have tried a ton of different diaper rash creams. The expensive ones, the popular ones, the you can use this anywhere ones. And I have to say, Aveeno, is by far my favorite.  I put it on her little bum a couple of times a day, but really slather it at night, since she will be in her diaper for a long time. I like the consistency and the fact that it is fragrance free. I wish the tube was a little softer, it makes getting the last of the cream out a little difficult, but that is our go to.

If I notice any change of color on her rear, I will immediately put breastmilk on her too. I think that has really helped.

Lately, I have been putting Vaseline on top of the Aveeno on top of the breastmilk. It might be overkill, but I really don't want her to get a diaper rash.

On to the story. She was looking a little red after a weekend of traveling, and in order to prevent a diaper rash, I will let her go around naked for a while. My husband has always flipped when he sees her like this, he still thinks her poo and pee like an adult's. Maybe I am just immune to that stuff now that I am a mom? Regardless, he has always said, "She's gonna poop one of these days and I'm not cleaning it up." Nah.

Well, yah. I was doing something in her room, and I heard, "Ooop, yeah, yep, Sarah, she's pooping. Sarah no, I need your help. No, I am serious. Yep. She pooped." I walk in there and he is holding her under her arms, pushed way out, and she just had this cute, innocent, lovable smile. One of my favorite things about being a mom, are moments like these, where I get to see my husband in these ridiculous situations with our baby. It makes me smile for days!

I look at the mess, and gratefully she pooped on the hardwood floor. However, our rug was not so lucky, she peed there. And yep, "Sarah! Why is is wet right here. Like, wet. Awwww." He also stepped in her pee. Ha. I cleaned it up, laughed, and cleaned, and laughed some more. I have heard of some pretty epic shit stories, maybe this is the first of many? In any case, it was pretty hilarious.

I will continue to let Delilah run around naked if that means she doesn't get a diaper rash, maybe we should get some of those little puppy mats.

Love these two!

Time, Where are You, dammit?

Me and my husband were talking last night after we put itty bitty to bed. He was finishing up some work and I was piddling on my iPad. He had a very concerned look on his face and he started talking about how we don't spend that much time together anymore. He acknowledged that between the baby, cooking, cleaning, and making lunches that, that doesn't leave much time for myself. Which he understands that I need to have. He very plainly stated, "I want to do something with you so you remember why you love me."

I have always said one of the most important parts in a relationship, besides communication, is remembering why you fell in love with that person. We all get stressed out, mad at the noises he makes while eating, irritated when the sheets are all twirled up on the bed, and overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities. But when it comes down to it, I chose Byron. I chose to be with him. I fell in love with him because of the way he made me laugh and how young and gentle his heart is. We would have nightly dance parties in our living room, wrestling matches in the kitchen, and explore new places. Obviously things change, more responsibilities add up, and having a baby makes your past life almost unrecognizable. Instead of thinking about what was, we need to think about what is now.

I need to take more time with my husband, even if it is a quick touch of our hands as we pass by each other in the house. Even though there are not enough hours in the day, I need to find time to do these small gestures so we both don't forget we are in a relationship and we are people who love each other. Balance is one of the hardest thing I have encountered in motherhood. It is a daily struggle and I'm sure it will always be. I need to be ok with knowing I am not going to get everything I need to get done. It does not make me a bad mom, a bad wife, or a bad person. As I was rocking and nursing Delilah I kept saying these statements over in my head, I needed to remind myself that I am good. That I am trying. That I have a husband who wants to spend more time with me. And that it is ok to need want time to myself.
